Putting Up the Softwood Roof – green oak barn

Wednesday 28/4/21

Today I got the key elements of the softwood roof in place in this order:

  1. Ridge
  2. King rafters (these are the common rafters in the hips of the roof which attach directly to the ends of the ridge)
  3. The first and last common rafters of the front and rear elevations of the roof and finally
  4. The four hips

Softwood roof - end of day 1

I then laid out the jack rafters and fitted the first three before rain stopped play.

I had the camera rolling while I did this…
