Cutting the Softwood Rafters – green oak barn

Wednesday 3/3/21

This was the ‘tool of the day’.

Once we got started, it chewed through nearly 50 metres of 6 x 2″ treated softwood to create all the rafters we need for the left hip of the roof. I’m embarrassed to say it took us a very long time to work out the set-up for the jack rafters but we got there in the end. And we will know for next time.

The workplace looked a bit chaotic at the end of the day with cut rafters everywhere but we will get these in place, at least temporarily, tomorrow.

We will then mark up everything and take it all to bits and start work on the other end of the roof.
